The natural world provides a constant source of inspiration and information. In early spring 2019, Valley Art Center invites artists to create works inspired by the concepts of Observation and Conservation. Artists are encouraged to explore the beauty of nature, to speak about the threats facing our world, but especially to create work that demonstrates the artist’s ability to study the natural world to gain information—information that can then be used to develop ideas on how to protect and conserve our natural ecosystems and life-giving resources. All mediums and styles are eligible.

Entry Fee: $15 per piece, up to three (3) pieces per artist

What you will need

  • One digital image of each art piece, up to three submissions. These must be good photographs of the actual, original art work you want to enter to potentially exhibit.
  • Digital images must be saved in the JPG (JPEG) file format.
  • Your pictures should be no smaller than 960 pixels and no larger than 4600 pixels on the longest side.
  • They should be no bigger than 4 Mb in file size.
  • Please make sure you are settled on titles, medium descriptions and prices. The way you identify yourself and your work in the submission form is what we start with when we present your information on art labels and in program listings.

Entering artwork submissions
After logging in or creating a new account, you will Add a new submission. You will fill out the form with Category, Title, Dimensions (height, width, and depth), Sale price (all work entered must be for sale for this exhibit), and Medium for your first artwork submission. You will then pay your entry fee and upload an Attachment that is the photo of your artwork. If you would like to enter more than one work of art, please upload and pay for each entry separately.

  • Call to entry
    • CTE opens December 21, 2018
    • CTE deadline, March 8, 2019 at 4 p.m.
    • Notification of jury results, March 12. Please do not call or email VAC for results.
  • Artwork delivery
    • Shipping—please plan for shipped art to arrive by March 18, 2019 or earlier and include a prepaid return shipping label inside your package.
    • Thursday drop off, March 14, 4–6 p.m.
    • Friday drop off, March 15, 8–10 a.m.
    • Saturday drop off, March 16, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
  • Event dates
    • Exhibit opens, March 29, 2019
    • Artist reception, March 29, 6–8 p.m.
    • VIP donor event, TBA.
    • Exhibit closes, May 8, 2019
  • Artwork pick up
    • Return shipping, ASAP after close of exhibit
    • Thursday pick up, May 9, 2019, 4–6 p.m.
    • Friday pick up, May 10, 8–10 a.m.
    • Saturday pick up, May, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
